JVCKENWOOD Canada Inc. is proud to announce 1st Newmarket Medical Venturers and Rovers, based in Newmarket, Ontario, as a recent recipient of the KENWOOD Cares $15,000 communications equipment grant.
1st Newmarket Medical Venturers and Rovers are a volunteer group within Scouts Canada for youth ages 15 to 26, supported by adult Scouters of all ages. In addition to traditional Scouting activities, the group specializes in health care and emergency response training, with a focus on paramedicine.
Members meet weekly to develop skills in first aid, outdoor leadership, emergency response, and teamwork. Throughout the year, they participate in training camps and community events, providing volunteer first aid services across York Region and the Greater Toronto Area.

“The 1st Newmarket Medical Venturers and Rovers are honoured and incredibly grateful to be selected as the 18th recipient of the KENWOOD Cares grant,” said Nathan Yang, Co-President, 1st Newmarket MedVents. “As our organization has grown in recent years, the scale of the volunteer first aid services we provide has begun to outpace our existing radio infrastructure. This grant will enable us to equip our volunteers with professional-grade radios, improving coordination, enhancing responder safety, and strengthening our ability to serve the community. We would also like to recognize and thank Telequip Wireless Communications for their support throughout the grant process. We are truly grateful for the generosity and support of JVCKENWOOD Canada and the KENWOOD Cares program. Their investment in our organization will help us continue providing safe, reliable first aid services at community events for years to come.”
Through the KENWOOD Cares grant, the organization received 20 KENWOOD NX-1000 Series portable two-way radios and accessories, helping to modernize its communications capabilities and support volunteers during training exercises and community events.
The equipment was configured by Telequip Wireless Communications of Barrie, Ontario, a long-time KENWOOD dealer.
“We’re proud to support 1st Newmarket Medical Venturers and Rovers by ensuring their new KENWOOD radio system is ready to support their activities. It’s especially rewarding to contribute to an initiative that helps these dedicated young volunteers develop valuable skills and gain practical experience,” said Kelly Best, President of Telequip Wireless Communications. “Clear communication is one of the most important tools for any volunteer emergency response organization, and we’re pleased to help equip the next generation of responders with reliable communications they can depend on.”
“What makes this grant especially meaningful is the opportunity to support young volunteers who are actively preparing themselves to serve others,” said Bob Harvey, President, JVCKENWOOD Canada Inc. “The members of 1st Newmarket Medical Venturers and Rovers are building valuable leadership and emergency response skills while making a real difference in their communities. Through KENWOOD Cares, we are proud to provide communications equipment that will help them continue that important work for years to come.”
